Overview

Library and Information Science is an interdisciplinary area of study that deals with the collection, processing, organisation, preservation and dissemination of Information in various types of libraries for enabling the optimum utilisation of information by its clientele. Various practical perspectives of different types of academic and research activities come under the purview of this area of study. Traditional libraries usually functioned with mere paper based, printed material as information resources, whereas modern concept of libraries embrace wide spectrum of electronic and non print material that too within the scope of library systems and services. Keeping the current scenario in view, today's professionals need a variety of competencies and skills, in addition to the basic core of traditional skills and professional knowledge. This book has been written with an aim to serve the needs of the students of Library & Information science. Javed Khan is working as Assistant professor in the Department of Library and Information Science, Swami Vivekananda Subharti University, Meerut. He obtained his Ph.D degree from Bundelkhund University in 2006.He has worked as a researcher in King Abdul-Aziz City for Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia, and has also served as a librarian in reputed institutes. He is actively engaged in research activities. Besides, being a member of the editorial team of several national journals, he has contributed a number of research papers in various National, International Journals, also participated in a number of National Conferences. He also contributed his knowledge by write it down the 3 books of different areas of his subject. He has a rich teaching and professional experience of around 12yrs. Several Ph.Ds and M.Phil dissertations to his credit as a research guide. He has been serving the field of Library and Information Science for over a decade with Missionary zeal.
