Overview

This is a study of recent advances in theory and research on the relationship between social inequality and the control of criminal behaviour. Exploring the ways in which social class, race, gender and age shape societal and organizational responses to crime, the book's contributors use empirical research to address two matters that have become increasingly central to the study of law, crime and social control: the ways in which social-control mechanisms are linked with one another; and the role of human agency in mediating the link between broader social forces and the social control of groups and individuals.
