Lucas (1928 - 2008) was born in Plymouth, North Carolina, and enrolled in the Marine Corps Reserve at 14, after lying about his age. For his heroics in battle, he was awarded the Medal of Honor in October, 1945. At 17, he was the youngest Medal of Honor winner of World War II. He passed away on June 5, 2008, at the age of 80.
