Table of ContentsReviews"Inconvenient Pipeline is a charming novel with an environmental message that becomes all the more compelling, precisely because it is interwoven with such a heart-warming story. A great read for all ages. This well-crafted story centres on the Nicholson family (Eric, a climate scientist at UVan, Carol, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, Julia going into grade 10 and John going into grade 6). With a camper trailer and canoe, they embark on a fishing holiday near Merritt, British Columbia. Because they are sociable and curious, they meet and interact with a large cast of characters during their two-week sojourn in a pristine wilderness on the edge of a pipeline. The story is suspenseful, and the plot takes unexpected and coincidental twists and turns that surprise and occasionally bring tears to the eye. Without preaching and unnecessary polemics, the author broaches some of the real-life moral and ethical implications of environmental issues, particularly pipelines, oil spills and the first nations communities they impact. The multiple sub-plots and themes are skillfully interwoven to create a story that is both fascinating, realistic and endearing. Highly recommended for all ages, but especially for teens, who will relate to the central characters. Prof. E.P. Lozowski Atmospheric Scientist Emeritus, University of Alberta, Edmonton I commend you for writing a story that is sorely needed. I really liked the adventures of the Nicholson family, the people they meet, and their camping and canoeing adventures. It was a pleasure to read and I'm so glad you sent it. Bette Kosmolak Author, 02 April 2020 Inconvenient Pipeline tells the story of an eco-aware family that stumbles upon a dangerous pipeline oil spill. The thematic fabric of the novel is a tight weave of environmental, economic, social, and health issues as seen through the heads and hearts of the various effected characters, including pipeline company employees, a First Nations band, and other residents of a British Columbia rural community. Particularly suitable for young readers, this book makes a case for a universal redesigning of our energy sources, and it does so with intelligence and urgency. Jonathan Churcher Wordsmith and Singer/Songwriter The subject is interesting and there are some neat twists to the story that keeps one reading; a pretty good read. Pat Fraser (author, The Mystery Behind the Shaman's Call) A charming portrayal of a family coming to grips with 21st century environmental destruction and intrigue. With just the right balance between authoritative science and compelling storytelling, this is a book the entire family can enjoy together. Garth Mihalcheon Management Consultant Inconvenient Pipeline delivers information about climate change, pollution and land governance and consent issues in a clear way that makes understanding complex issues such as these easy. However, environmental issues are not the only ones touched upon in ""Inconvenient Pipeline"" as the book discusses mental health issues, ethical questions and indigenous culture. The book also goes to great length in describing the geography of British Columbia, and encourages a sense of adventure. Overall, Inconvenient Pipeline is an exciting piece of fiction for young people interested in environmental issues.
