OverviewRising income inequality worldwide is becoming one of the greatest current challenges for the social and fiscal policies of individual countries, as well as for the global economy. This book examines and compares this phenomenon in the two post-communist countries of Bulgaria and Russia. On the one hand, it aims to illustrate the complex conditions in both states that could determine the inequality of income distribution. Secondly, it examines the reforms implemented that could potentially influence income inequality. In doing so, the genesis of these reforms and their impact on income inequality are analysed, enabling an assessment of the similarities and differences between the two countries under comparison. The causes of increased income inequality in most post-communist countries have already been researched, but research has not yet focused intensively on a comparison between Bulgaria and Russia. This comparative case study therefore aims to address this research gap.
