Author Information

Kourtney Spadoni is a Canadian artist that was born in Schreiber, Ontario. Taking to visual arts at a very young age, she pursued this passion further at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in the Studio Visual Arts program and a minor in English. Wishing to combine her major and minor, Kourtney created a personal graphic novel titled, In The Underwood, for an independent art course in her last year of University. It was accepted into the visual arts collection and curriculum in 2019 and even won best short story in the 2021 Chanticleer Book Awards! Originally focusing on drawing and painting, in the last few years she has branched out to digital art and illustration, the graphic novel she made for her independent art project being an example of this. Furthermore, Kourtney has participated in numerous art exhibitions at Brock University's Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts in St. Catharines. The themes of her work depict her interest in the relationship between the mundane and the fantastical, and exploring personal struggles with mental health. Kourtney wishes to further examine themes of mental illness through her art and hopes to connect with others who have gone through similar obstacles.
