Overview

Mabel is a young girl who sits by her window every evening at sunset. She watches as the sky grows dark and her small village goes to sleep. And every evening Mabel watches her daddy leave for work. Mabel's daddy is the watchman and it's his job to stand guard in the dark and protect the village. But one night her daddy is too sick to go to work, and that's when Mabel does a very brave thing-she volunteers to replace him! What Mabel doesn't realize is how lonely a watchman's job can be (and even a little scary), especially when it's almost morning and an enemy army is coming to invade her village! Will Mabel be able to warn the villagers in time? Follow Mabel through her night watch. Discover how God provides everything she needs to do a watchman's job. Beautifully illustrated with vibrant colors and vivid details, this engaging story for young readers will quickly become a bedtime favorite!

Author Information

Nancy Haack grew up in a small New England town that could easily be the setting for a Hallmark movie. There she was raised with small town values that taught her the importance of family, community, and faith. Later, she studied graphic design at the University of Connecticut, along with English literature. Over the years she has had varied opportunities to use her artwork to enrich the lives of children; everything from bright, vibrant murals in elementary schools to coloring and game pages in children's magazines to facepainting for high-end entertainment companies. Today, she can be found with her dog, Henry, at her mountain studio where she is pursuing her lifelong passion and illustrating children's books-most recently, Santa's Spies Are Fireflies.
