Reviews

Hadley has distilled a number of reasons why Wharton is still one of America's most vibrant writers. Most of us loved her fiction despite the fact that people called her a 'novelist of manners' - and now this book shows the novelist, as woman as well as expert writer, using her craft to inscribe the wide dimensions of women's lives and loves. A stellar effort. (Linda Wagner-Martin, University of North Carolina)
