Overview

Scouts of two races are looking for colonizable worlds in our solar system when a firefight damages both ships and a pulse from a rogue weapon unintentionally wrecks human civilization. Captain Glop and Captain Eix must both repair their ships, save themselves and their crews, and try to salvage their missions. Ser-Off is a slave on Eix's ship. Though he has no training or experience he assumes leadership of the slave race and has to save himself and his fellow slaves if he can. Four humans include career criminal Leo who sees collapse of government as opportunity. Astronomer Anne's team is first to see the spaceships but has to fight off a mob and flee. Trucker Joe survives at an interstate rest stop. Dom is reluctant leader of Pine Camp in the Sierras.
