OverviewChildren and juveniles can be involved in various conflicts. Some of these they cause accidentally, other ones they initiate more of less wilfully themselves. Many kinds of conflicts arise from family or other social relationships. Conflicts are part of life and we all have to learn how to find solutions, to manage them and making the best of the situation. As a matter of fact in modern pluralistic, multicultural societies, in densely populated countries as the Netherlands, conflict potential is rather big and certainly growing. The central theme of this book is the question in how far children and juveniles are able to manage the conflicts they are confronted with themselves, in how far they can learn conflict managing, how adults can help children and juveniles to improve the necessary abilities for these tasks and what adults should take into account when they have to settle conflicts to which children and juveniles are party. Professionals and academics of different disciplines review the subject in order to stimulate a broader discussion. Strengthening the abilities of children, juveniles and adults in the area of conflict management by and for young people is something of importance not only in the best interest of the child but also in the best interest of society as a whole.
