OverviewThe Short Version. This is a story meant to make the reader and listener smile. It's as simple as that. If you're looking for a silly little story to read to your little one, a story with beautiful illustrations, one told in verse, and one with (hopefully) universal appeal, then I hope you'll join Dad and Bear on their journey, as they set off In Search of a Burp! The Long Version. This project started during those middle of the night feedings with my twin boys. If you're a parent, you know what feedings I'm talking about-when you're so tired, you accidentally scoop formula into the coffee machine instead of the bottle; when, having finished feeding and all you want to do is crawl back into bed for a few hours of sleep before you start all over again, your little bundle of joy refuses to burp ... and there you are, in that chair, exhausted, and pat-pat-patting away. It was during those Midnight, 2 A.M. and 5 A.M. feedings that I started writing little rhymes in my head as a way to keep my spirts up. Rhymes about silly places to burp your baby; rhymes about silly things you may do when burping your baby; rhymes about how special those moments are in the middle of the night, cuddled in close, the two of you. Several weeks later, having kept all of the verses in my head, I decided to write a few of them down on paper ... and the story quickly unfolded from there. I showed the first draft to my husband and a few close friends, and the response was overwhelming-Dad and Bear had a story that needed to be shared! But how to bring the story visually to life? If I was going to try and publish this story (a big if in those early days), then I wanted EVERYONE to see themselves in the characters. Little boys and little girls. Children of all colors. Children of all backgrounds. But how do you create characters with such broad appeal? Working with my AMAZING illustrator, Nastya, we settled on bears. Perhaps not the most original of choices, but hopefully one that allows your little one to see their family and-most importantly-THEMSELVES in the characters.
