OverviewThe jute industry is a very important one for our country. Almost 4 million farmer families are involved in making raw jute, and 250,000 people work on making jute goods. So, it is important for this industry to keep going and grow. Around the end of the 1800s, the jute industry was at its peak. This period lasted until the sixth decade of the 20th century. Then, this industry started to fail because it had to deal with tough competition from a powerful rival, i.e., synthetic goods. This is still the case right now.
