OverviewIn the Sahel region in general, and in Mali in particular, supplying people with drinking water is a priority for the authorities. In fact, since the series of droughts in the 70s and 80s, we have initiated, with the support of our partners, many projects to build modern water supply points in Mali, and in the Koulikoro region in particular. Most of these were human-driven pumps (PMH) or modern wells (PM).Today, it has to be said that most of these structures break down very often before their renewal age (PMH) or dry up (PM) for a good part of the year. The national inventory of modern water points revealed that 30% of PMH are out of order and 35% of PM dry up for a good part of the year. This state of affairs is attributable for the most part to poor management, but if we look closely, isn't another phenomenon the catalyst for this situation? That's why we looked into the impact of climate change as a factor influencing the decline in the rate of functionality of these structures.
