Sebastian Schnelle studierte von 2000 bis 2006 an der Universität Hamburg Physik und Philosophie, bevor er an der University of Queensland in der Physik ultrakalter Quantengase promovierte. Seine anschließende Arbeit über den islamischen Terrorismus konnte er an der Universität Halle-Wittenberg fertigstellen, wo er 2013 in Philosophie promoviert wurde. Seine philosophischen Schwerpunkte sind Ethik, politische Philosophie und Religionsphilosophie.
