He has spent his career in the clay industry, has a PhD in Paper Science from the University of Manchester and is a Fellow of the Technical Association of the Paper Industry. He is also a keen photographer and writer and has written articles for The Lady, The Countryman, This England, Evergreen and The People's Friend.
