Illustrated Descriptive Account of the Museum of Andalucian Pottery and Lace at Seville (Classic Reprint)

Overview

Excerpt from Illustrated Descriptive Account of the Museum of Andalucian Pottery and Lace at Seville The Cuesta (cliff) del Rosario was supposed to be a natural outcrop of rock in the midst of the great plain of the Guadalquivir: but when early in 1910 the pro prietor of the site began to level the ground for re building, he found his work impeded in every direction by buried walls, some of great stones roughly worked on one face only, others of large badly made bricks of a pale yellow colour, mortared here and there on to the stones of the older wall below, and yet others of recognised Roman construction. Below the Roman work was found a layer of virgin soil ms. In depth, and above the Visigothic and Arabic remains followed in natural sequence, until on the top level of all came the houses built during the time which has elapsed since Fernando III. Of Castile and Leon con quered the Moslems and took Seville in 1248. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
