(Peter Nau, Doody's Book Reviews, September 25, 2020) Author InformationHisashi Shinohara, M.D., Ph.D. Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery, Hyogo College of Medicine Dr. Shinohara completed his doctorate at the Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine. After his graduation, he visited the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center as a postdoctoral fellow. He trained as a medical physician at Osaka Medical College Hospital, Hyogo Prefectural Amagasaki Hospital, Toranomon Hospital, and then moved to Kyoto University as an Associate Professor. He was promoted to his present position in 2016. Dr. Shinohara's special interests are in endoscopic surgery for digestive diseases, especially gastric and esophageal cancer, and the clinical anatomy of the gastrointestinal tract. He has published more than 80 peer-reviewed scientific papers and received numerous research grants for his research work in these areas. He received the AACR-Gerald B. Grindey Memorial Young Investigator Award. He has links with the Taiwan Surgical Association, Korean Surgical Society, Korean Society of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons, International Gastric Cancer Congress, American College of Surgeons, and the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery.
