Idk!

Overview

IDK! is a heartwarming story about a young man named Kyndle who discovers a wealth of information about his culture and heritage while researching the origins of soul food. The book is a lovely blend of important historical information and the story of a loving family teaching their son and grandson lessons about their shared history. Miss Fatona's class at Michelle Obama Academy will host this year's International Day program, which focuses on cultural foods. When Ms. Fatona asked her students to name the origin of their cultural food, Kyndle admits, ""I don't know."" Immediately his classmates taunt and tease him, making him more determined to find the answer to why his cultures food is named Soul food. The plot thickens when Kyndle turns to his village and the internet for answers. Young readers will relate to Kyndle's quest to learn about the origins of Soul food, and get a powerful history lesson in the process. Kyndle's favorite recipes are included.

Reviews

Terrific Blend of food culture education and immersion into our youth culture N.E.T. As a person who has eaten American food their entire life, and thought they knew American food origins I learned quite a bit following the main character, Kyndle, on his journey of exploration. I was transported to a school campus, listened to conversations between students, teachers, parents, and extended family. I walked in step with Kyndle as he prepared his report on the origins of American food. I was by his side as he lectured to his classmates on his findings. At the conclusion of Kyndle's research and lecture a fantastic multi-cultural food festival is held. Wonderful food dishes from around the globe. A surprising bonus where the recipes for American food shared by the author. It's a fast read appropriate for both youths and adults. Thought provoking. And a few twists and turns added for good measure.
