Author Information

I was born in West Central Illinois in 1978. I was raised in a family that owned bars and restaurants. I was taught how to cook by my grandmother. There was no barbeque to speak of, but I could make some mean goulash or fried chicken. I bought my first grill at 22 and started grilling any piece of meat I could get a hold of. My career started with 24 years in the retail world. I was still cooking and learning new techniques. I moved to Oklahoma in 2011 and bought my first smoker shortly after. I was very intrigued by smoking meat. I decided to try competitive cooking and BBQ in 2013. That was when Pretty Good at Drinking Beer BBQ was formed. We have competed in countless BBQ competitions. I have also qualified for the SCA World Finals twice and competed in the World Food Championships. In 2021 I went to work for Oklahoma Joe Davidson. I started as his Retail Manager in the new concept (Oklahoma BBQ Supply). Shortly after I also took on the General Manager role at one of Oklahoma Joe's restaurants. I have taught over 18 classes that include cooking everything from appetizers to desserts and everything in between. This year we also started our own line of BBQ sauces and rubs. My desire is to help people with all things BBQ. I also have an amazing wife and children who support me in everything I do and `without them none of this would be possible.
