Ice, Ice, Baby

Overview

The ice will swallow the whole science station within days if Vedana, Alice, and their fellow scientists can't find out what's causing its unstoppable growth. In the meantime, they're slowly being roasted to death by a malfunctioning life support system aboard their ship. If they don't restore the environmental controls they will be forced to evacuate to the planet's frozen surface. And while they fight to avoid being frozen or cooked, a murderous saboteur bent on destroying their mission is killing them off one by one. This thrilling scifi tale of two brilliant heroines leading their comrades in a life-and-death struggle will engage you from the very first page and leave you hungry for more. The bonus novella Prodigy is a tale of preternatural suspense that follows a pair of parapsychologists as they are slowly drawn down into a rabbit's hole of psychic perception, unwitting pawns in a nefarious plot woven by their mysterious employer. Finishing up this hat-trick of captivating novellas is Time Trial, a fascinating foray into a paradoxical world of multiple time jumps, in which the main character ends up working alongside countless past and future versions of himself to complete a complicated project requiring hundreds of workers - all of whose duties he alone must perform. With nail-biting suspense and terrific characters, this volume of three engrossing tales is guaranteed to satisfy any reader looking for an entertaining blend of science fiction, action, mystery and romance.

Author Information

J. M. Holmes was born and raised in Canada and educated in the Classics by Jesuits and nuns. A Renaissance polymath, Holmes has been the Editor of the bilingual magazine for Glendon College in Toronto; the Editor of that city's French-language newspaper, Le Metropolitain; a successful magazine publisher; and Director of the Davis Film Festival in Davis, California. Recipient of the 2005 Heroes Award from the American Red Cross, Holmes has also received commendations from the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, the California Legislature, and the City of Davis, California, in recognition of extraordinary charity work performed. Holmes is also the winner of awards in California for running a business with outstanding environmental practices and from Rotary International for producing that charity's weekly publication. Holmes is working hard to combat shrinking populations in the western world, and to that end has participated in the addition of two additional humans, Alex and Sarah, both of whom are college students working hard at honing their skills in questioning authority and challenging conventional wisdom. Currently, J. M. Holmes resides in the United States and shares a home with seven feral cats.
