OverviewThis is the side of the ice show you've never seen. When this Midwestern girl arrives at her first ice show practice in a make-shift rink in Buenos Aries, she quickly dispels any illusions about ice show glamour. From the women with the dancers' bodies and the bikers' mouths, to the couples whose most intimate secrets become official ice show business, to the street-ready show makeup, Amy sees that show life is a wild ride. Through a series of vignettes, Amy takes the reader on side trips during days off into every non-tourist part of South America she can find. On show days, she takes the reader backstage with all the drama in the ice show-the practical jokes, the falls, and the cat fights. During her 8-month tour with Disney on Ice, Amy learns how to perform under the lights and maneuver through backstage show life, but learns even more about herself in this coming of age travel story that will make you fall in love with South America and the ice show. Th e family later moved to Northwest Ohio, where Amy really found her skating legs and fell in love with the sport at Bowling Green Skating Club. While attending college at University of South Carolina in Columbia, she taught and skated on a 50 ft x 100 ft ice surface at Rockbridge Figure Skating Club that was only open for 6-months each year. Since her tour with Disney on Ice, Amy has coached in multiple rinks outside Boston, Massachusetts while she was in graduate school at Tufts University and at skating clubs in Plymouth and Ann Arbor, Michigan. Starting in 2000, she joined her parents in adult competitions and won Championship Masters Ladies at Adult Nationals in 2002. Family life and two little girls have kept Amy away from competitive skating over the past fi ve or so years, but she still straps on the skates once a week for a fun workout and now enjoys watching her oldest daughter in group skating lessons. Amy resides in Wilmington, North Carolina with her husband and daughters, Avery and Paige, and works part-time as an aquatic biologist. Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
