Author Information

Joël Baret was born during WWII in a village near Langres on the border between Champagne and Bourgogne, France. He was raised in an environment of tales of war, whether those from the Great War in which his grandfather won fame, or those from WWII, in which his father commanded a ""Centre Organisateur de l'Artillerie"" in 1940. From an early age he expressed an unbounded admiration for men capable of the supreme sacrifice. Nevertheless, his taste for the outdoor world prevailed and led him to choose top schools from which he obtained a diploma in agriculture. Then followed a career in the civil service with the Ministry of Agriculture. He was responsible first as teacher, then manager, in both France and abroad (Indian Ocean and the Pacific Basin). He undertook many trips throughout the world, both for business and for pleasure. He even had the opportunity to teach French in an American University. After retirement in a little village in Burgundy in 2003, Joël Baret devoted himself entirely to his passion for history, above all that of the airborne troops of the 82nd Airborne Division during D-Day. This book is his second on the subject.
