Author Information

Mary Rader Pierce was born the youngest of nine children to Ballard Rader, a mountain preacher and railroad worker, and Edith Barns Rader a one room school teacher in Rockcastle County, Kentucky. With her husband, Dr. Greg Pierce she went on to spend 7 years in mission work in an Alaskan village and eventually made 40 mission trips to a dozen foreign countries. Mary's love and gift for singing Southern Gospel music has carried her around the world several times. Greg has served as a Southern Baptist Director of Missions in three states; Virginia, Georgia and currently Southeast Arkansas where Mary has always been his number one team member. The Pierces' have two sons who are pastors and share in their passion for mission work. Their sons married sisters from East Kazakhstan Russia , the daughters of a Russian Pastor. Mary often speaks on missions and is always in demand as a singer. Her sweet Kentucky mountain accent has charmed everyone who has met her. She is not only a direct descendant of Elizabeth Casteel of the Daniel Boone family, but of Ambrose Powell of the Thomas Walker party that opened up the Cumberland Gap into Kentucky in 1750.
