I Went to Prison So You Won't Have To: A Love and Lawfare Story in Trump Land

Overview

When former White House adviser Peter Navarro stood on principle, he never imagined it would land him behind bars. Navarro stood up for a right long protected by Democrats and Republicans alike, and one that has been assumed by every president in American history until Donald Trump: executive privilege. By refusing to bend to Democrats' demands that he betray Donald Trump—and the Constitution—Navarro went to jail as a political prisoner.  Yet inside a Miami federal prison, Navarro discovered two unexpected lifelines: a series of heartfelt postcards to his fiancée, Bonnie “Pixie” Brenner, and a hidden multi-billion-dollar scandal within the prison system. In I Went to Prison So You Won't Have To, Navarro and Brenner, or rather “Huck” and “Pixie,” weave together three riveting threads: an insider’s chronicle of life in lockup, a romance sustained through letters and late-night hope, and a whistleblower’s exposé of how the failure to enforce a landmark 2018 prison reform law—the First Step Act—shattered inmates’ families and wasted taxpayer money. Set against the backdrop of Trump-era turmoil, this story transcends party lines, blending the personal and the political. In these pages, Navarro’s fight against efforts to prosecute President Trump and to stand up for his constitutional beliefs becomes entwined with a fight for justice and accountability in America’s prisons. Meanwhile, Bonnie’s unwavering love and “Pixie”-voiced letters illuminate the emotional cost of incarceration for those left waiting outside prison gates. I Went to Prison So You Won't Have To: A Love and Lawfare Story in Trump Land is at once a gripping prison diary, a tender long-distance love story, and a call to action that challenges readers to find common ground in the pursuit of truth and reform.

Reviews

“Peter Navarro is a warrior for our America First values and someone who will never back down from a fight. What they did to him is disgusting, and it's a warning to anyone who stands with my father against the Deep State.” — Donald Trump Jr. ""Peter Navarro has shown incredible courage. His case is a prime example of the political weaponization of our justice system under Biden. Navarro didn't bend or break. America should be outraged."" — Mike Davis, Article III Project ""Peter Navarro's case is about executive privilege and separation of powers. No senior advisor should ever go to prison for honoring these principles. This sets a dangerous precedent."" — Alan Dershowitz “[Peter] Navarro . . . helped Trump save millions of lives during the pandemic and create millions of jobs during his tenure. Never a whiff of scandal and generally described as one of the most effective officials in the White House—and he got leg irons.” —Sean Hannity on The Sean Hannity Show

Argue with it. Mark the pages that disturb you. And above all — stay awake.” — Mark Anthony, The Blaze “Navarro’s book is itself a work of courage, free of score-settling or recrimination. The emphasis is on fairness, on the balance necessary to establish justice and secure the blessings of liberty.” — Loren Kalish, American Greatness Magazine “Read it for the lawfare debate, but stay for the intimate love story it honestly tells.”  — Leslie Corbly, PJ Media “I Went To Prison So You Won’t Have To deserves an engaged, if sometimes even skeptical, reading by anyone who cares about the presidency as an institution.” —Scott McKay, American Spectator
