Reviews

All About Colors, is a new series targeted to very young children. Each title introduces a color and each book has a very limited text (thirty-eight words for this title). The engaging cover shows a young girl jumping on her bed in a room that is predominately purple but leaning toward pink. The book is set up like a reference book with a contents page, index, references to a couple of additional books, and two web sites. The text opens with a heart in purple with a purple cat in the center. The text notes that the protagonist loves her purple cat in her purple room. The book has imaginary as well realistic items in purple. Cats and dogs are not purple, but fields of lavender are and so are crocus. The pattern of the text never changes--on every page except the last. Without adult intervention, I am not sure how young readers will know what they are looking at. Perhaps callouts about the pictures might have been useful. A very limited, but attractive introduction to the color purple. Others in the series include blue, green, red and yellow., Children's Literature
