Showing horses gets into your blood! Each person has his or her own reasons for loving to show horses. The thrill of competition and riding in a show is exciting. But the real love of showing is not all about winning. Going in with the mindset that you want to have fun and learn something-regardless of the outcome--will most likely make the show a positive experience for you and your horse. Your horse is totally dependent upon you. At the same time, you have a partnership in which you are the leader. Your horse is happiest being with you. If you are showing, then you undoubtedly have a horse who loves the sport. The love you share, the trust you place in each other, the companionship, the teamwork required of both of you: those are the important things, the things that are of true value. This is the reason that I have created this journal. Yes, it's fun to win. It's a great feeling to go home with a ribbon or trophy. But the real value of showing comes when you and your horse are there to learn and improve. No matter how long you ride and show, you will never be finished learning. This journal is designed to assist you in recording important information about the events you have shown in. Each entry consists of two pages upon which you can enter the show, date, location, type of event, your evaluation of your performance, your overall experience, notes on anything you wish work to improve, and results of the event.

Her varied careers as a professional musician, a university professor--first in music and later teaching Professional Writing, and a writer and editor, have provided wonderful opportunities to pursue her diverse interests. Living in a variety of places and interacting with many people has been an invaluable experience. Her many years of being owned by dogs and cats has allowed her to not only enjoy their unconditional love, but to participate in various dog sports. Horses have been an important of her family's lives for many, many years. Currently, her niece is an outstanding professional rider and instructor and her grandniece also shows her horse. Life truly is grand!
