Overview

This delightful collection of poems and drawings about dreams is by noted artist Jonathan Meader. In each poem the dreamer is a different animal: a mighty mouse, a brave bear, a winged gopher, an elk - 14 animals in all. Beethoven Bird sings so sweetly one night that, ""I knocked a rhino off his feet. He follows me wherever I go. That silly rhino loves me so."" Each poem gently promotes empathy, the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. In the last poem, the dreamer is a Friendly Bird who is offered a favorite wish by a magic fish, and decides that ""Most of all I wish to be the person who is dreaming me.""

Author Information

Jonathan Meader's art has been exhibited internationally. Some is in The National Gallery and the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., and in many other collections. He lived in Lebanon and Morocco as a teenager, and has traveled widely. Meader and his wife, Barbara Demeter, devoted more than a decade to uncovering the long-forgotten sources and meanings of ancient Egyptian symbols. Then, after he became a grandfather (x5), Jonathan was inspired to dig up some of his old pen and ink drawings, ones done 40 years earlier, and add color and poems to create this book.
