OverviewColin B Osborn is a poet and musician from South London. I Choose The Rhymes is his debut collection. The pieces included were developed over the course of two years spent traversing gigs, open mics, festivals and organising his own events. The poems offer a blend of philosophical constructs mixed with a mildly absurd observation of everyday events. Whether writing on the Panopticon, subpar eateries or reflecting on grief, all are marked by an attention to phonic affect and playfully intricate rhyme schemes. While they are written with the intention of being read aloud their presence on the page allows for closer scrutiny of some of the more dubious puns and wordplay. The title refers to his steadfast ambition to pursue a life immersed in rhyme despite much advice to the contrary. Thus far the results have been fair to middling. Outstanding collection from Colin, Debut and anthology simply an amazing poet. I highly recommend this wonderful book, I Choose the Rhymes.
