To get my older daughter to be able to read successfully on her own. This journey started when she was 4 years old, already knowing her alphabets and having a little bit of phonics background. We tried several different reading programs only to hit obstacles and gaps in her progress. Frustrated by these problems, I decided to remove as many of these obstacles as possible and fill as many of these gaps too by creating a system that would ensure her success. Little by little the system came together and my daughter began reading on her own. Fast forward 2 years... I decided to test the program out at work, working with elementary school children in Japan. I was finding success with the students, but now faced the challenge of creating a system to teach teachers how to teach the system. In the development of this program, a pleasant surprise sprang up. On no particular special day my younger daughter, age 3 at the time (nearing her 4th birthday) came to me with the first book in the series and read it to me on her own. I was totally blown away and asked her who taught her to read . She said it was her sister. Yes, my older daughter, 6 at the time, had taught her younger sister to read. I asked her what she did and she said she just copied the steps we always used to read that book series. So here it is, the whole first program, compiled in one book. If a six year old can teach a three year old to read, I definitely know you can teach your kids to read and that they will come out of this being successful readers too.
