After his separation from the service he started having symptoms of PTSD. The Veterans Administration first gave him a diagnosis for the impairment in 1982. After moving to NJ with his family in 1986 he transferred his VFW membership to the Washington Township Memorial Post # 6332 where he remains a life member. He was elected as District 13 Commander for the VFW Department of NJ in 1994. He is a founding sponsor of the United States Army Historical Foundation.
