OverviewHodey Antoannette Olympio, has been a joyful writer of short stories and poetry since childhood and it has been a light in the midst of all the darkness surrounding her. Thinking it was just a childhood adventure she meant to quit until she met a renowned Ghanaian writer, Ladé Worsornu. He brought a dim light back to her world, after several meetings with great writers who encouraged her to get back on her feet, she got inspired once again and the lights were fully back on, to take further steps to her writing skills. Hodey pens down her emotions, thoughts, concerns and observation. Her writings are mostly about her personal life and Africa, once a while touching on romance. Hodey Olympio enjoys singing, writing and reading, and also finds solitude at the beach or a quiet place alone listening to music soothing. Hodey be am a published poet through her contribution to the AdinkraLinks Network anthology series Volume IV - Mpatapo, which in turn, led to the publication this new volume, her own debut anthology of poems 'I Am A Woman' In addition to her writing career, Hodey teaches in a private primary school in Kwame Danso - Bantama in the Bono East in Ghana. She is also an artisan, a model and an up-cycler; a true multidisciplinary artist. It is her dream that her voice is heard globally. This is Hodey Olympio's debut poetry anthology. It contains a poetic narrative of a wide range of a young woman's transformative journey of becoming and navigating maturity in thought, belief, knowledge and understanding herself and the expression of that journey of becoming. In this collection, Hodey challenges the norm with an unusual calmness of one who is confident of her new unapologetic perspectives and expressions. She is bluntly honest about what she sees wrong with certain religious assumptions about love and sexuality, about personal relationships, disappointments and false promises of various institutions including institutions of education, the economy, the social and community establishment. She is expressing her rediscovery of ancestral knowledge, and memory, intuition sharpness of presence and her own creative impulses. Overarching and central to this narrative expression is her womanhood and the intensity of sensing that in relation to how she sees herself vis-a-vis how she is seen and navigated by others in a surrounding that she finds sometimes invasive and evasive as well as overly judgemental. Hodey's 'I Am A Woman' is both deeply philosophically deep and conceptually engaging, tasking us to shift perspective and modify our ways of observing and drawing judgement on others especially creative and talented young women with radical and new voices with new understanding of indigenous systems.
