OverviewThe book studies the program ""Balanço Geral - Police Cases,"" taking into account human rights (the principle of presumption of innocence), journalistic ethics and deontology, and impartiality in the approach to criminal matters. The program in question is broadcast on TV Miramar, where criminal matters are reported and suspects, victims, and their families are exposed and interrogated in a humiliating manner. In this way, the book shows that it is possible to produce credible and ethically acceptable journalism that informs while respecting human rights. To this end, the book focuses on the reports, the framing of the images, the posture, and the way in which the presenter approaches these issues. To this end, we sought to work with theories and concepts such as: Cultural Industry, Critical Theory, Sensationalism, Presumption of Innocence, where we reviewed the literature that contributed to the theoretical basis of the text and analyzed reports on the case under study. Based on content analysis, we evaluated how the presenter/reporter constructs his discourse and how he treats his sources of information (suspects and their families), both in interviews and in the handling of images.
