Thirteen-year-old Luna Reed's life is officially a disaster. Her best friend Riley won't even look at her-not since the kiss. Luna swears it was an accident, a total fluke; she didn't mean to kiss Riley's crush, Josh. But now Riley won't answer her texts, and it feels like everyone at school has picked a side (spoiler: not Luna's). Just when Luna is positive things can't get worse, her actor-cousin Oakley sweeps in from Hollywood with a dramatic plan to fix everything. His advice? Join the school play, where Riley just happens to be the theatre favorite. Luna's not exactly stage material, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Between awkward rehearsals, icy glares from Riley, and panic attacks that come out of nowhere, Luna wonders if she's in over her head. When all is said and done and Oakley's plan backfires in epic fashion, Luna realizes she'll have to make a tough choice.
