Professor F.A. Matsuyama (Frank Atsuo Matsuyama) was born in Japan on 9/28/1886 and died 2/10/1957 in Sonoma, California. In 1931 Frank introduced yawara stick self-defense methods to the Berkeley Police Dept. Frank also worked with the Oakland and San Francisco police departments.
