Overview
This is preparation for life, and life is not a grammar test. Conversation is important. Why? 1. Conversation is the one, absolute, essential skill. Without conversation, there is no language acquisition. Without the interest and personal relevance of conversations, the other skills just don't stick. They are just long-term, short-lived chores that soon evaporate. Without conversation, English is just memorizing for a test. 2. Conversation should be the goal. Clear, confident speaking ability is the highest academic skill, not the lowest. A world expert who cannot express their expertise in conversational terms is useless. 3. Conversation is just the tip of the improvement iceberg. With enough speaking a critical mass is reached, and listening, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary (and life-changing confidence), improve in equal measure. Grammar is not important. Why? EFL education has the wrong goal. Grammar is the goal because the goal is easy to test. The goal is simply to pass one last multiple-choice, grammar test. Grammar study is a building block to higher grammar scores, not to speaking ability. If it were, then all high school seniors would be fluent speakers, and they're not. The ultimate goal of a ten-year English education should not be to pass one last multiple-choice grammar test. It's speaking ability. This book will show you how to get it.
