How to Survive a Night in a Mental Health Hospital

Overview

Staying in a mental health hospital can be like spending the night in prison. Once you are admitted to the hospital you are now a prisoner of that hospital. You are now set up to be punished for having a mental illness. You might face being locked inside of a room, being tied to a bed, being physically and emotionally abused by other patients, and you might even be subject to physical abuse from staff members. This is one man's story about spending the night in a mental health hospital. Travis shares his story about spending the night in mental health hospitals. Travis talks about the structure of the day at the hospital and all of the restrictions and limitations that are placed upon him during the hospital stay. Travis tries to enlighten the reader on what really goes on during these visits to mental health hospitals. Travis talks openly about bullying from other patients and abuse from staff members that he has experienced while staying in an inpatient mental health hospital in the past. In this boo Travis shares how the experience of being a patient in a mental health hospital has contributed to his mental health being worse upon release than it was before he went into the hospital. At the end of this short but informative book Travis challenges the reader to spend a night in the mental health hospital to find out what it is like before they make the decision to commit their child or loved one to the hospital. Travis shares experiences from 4 different mental health hospitals all of which are very similar and painful. This is a great book to read if you are interested in learning what really goes on behind closed doors. This book will teach you what these hospitals and institutions do not want you to see.

Author Information

Travis is 28 years old, turning 29 at the end of March 2014. Life has been challenging due to having autism and mental illnesses that are related to Autism. Schizophrenia is a scary thing. When a person hears voices or sees things that others don't it is very difficult to lead a normal life and function normally. Schizophrenia much like Autism interferes with a person's ability for form and maintain meaningful friendships and relationships in life. Both Autism and Schizophrenia create significant social barriers that must be overcome. This book was written in hopes of helping parents who have children going through some of the similar issues to have someone to relate to. It's also for those people who have autism or have a mental illness of some kind and just do not feel like anyone understands them. The process of getting help is daunting on its own. I just now have found a counselor I can confide in at the age of 29 whom I feel is helping me with autism and schizophrenia. I've spent 7 years seeing over 100 counselors and several doctors who just could not understand what was going on. I have a few amazing friends now and am thankful for that. This book will give the reader a look at how Autism and Mental Illness can be related. While we cover it a lot in the book it is important to note that Autism is not a mental illness by itself however autism may very well be masked by a mental illness such as Schizophrenia. People suffering from Autism and mental illness need your help, love, and support. Hopefully in reading this you are able to offer them that support and love by understanding what they might be going through just a bit better. You can learn more about Travis and his life with Autism and Mental Illness by visiting travisbreeding.com and by looking him up on Amazon and other popular book retailers around the world.
