Jack Castiglione's methods and approaches can also be applied to stopping hate crimes pervasive in other minority groups. Castiglione has developed and used these exact steps to stop gay bashings that were rampant in Long Beach, Ca. in the 1970s through the 1990s. He established the Hate Crime Reporting Hotline in 1986. Although this phoneline was widely and consistently advertised throughout the LGBTQ community for six years, the hate crime reports dropped to near zero. This is because he worked tirelessly with the police department to improve its tactics, training, and policies.
