Sometimes in life we travel on journeys that we do not expect. In family life this often happens. How do we cope with the changes that we need to make and the challenges we face?My family experience was nothing like I expected it to be. One of my sons presented challenges that I never would have chosen to face. And yet I had to.How do we deal with challenges to who we are, what we are capable of and what we don't know? How do we cope when we have to let go of one of our own children? And how do we go on living when things get too hard?I am Marlicia Travis. I am a forty-four year old woman living in Sydney, Australia. I love my family and always intended to be who I needed to be and do what I needed to do to raise happy, healthy and productive children who not only enjoy their lives but also help others to as well. It hasn't turned out as I had planned. Sometimes our plans aren't the ones that are applied to our lives. It was ten years from hell. Ten years of struggle and learning and growing. It has been said that in order for many things to grow they must first be planted in the dark, stomped on and given some time before emerging into the thing they were supposed to become. I hope that my family has become the best that it can be. I hope that we each have a lot of depth to our character and who we are. And I hope that that can shine through for you to see as you read this book. It was a therapeutic exercise, getting it all down into writing. And it is a story that I believe needs to be shared.If you are going through struggles with challenges in your family, if you are facing mental health difficulties or other unseen disabilities with those you love, I hope that my story resonates with you.If you are wondering what it's like to travel on the journey of raising a child, only to hand them over to the government to raise, then this is a great story for you to read. Maybe you will see my reasons why I chose to do this. Maybe you will understand a little more.I love my family. I love each person in my family. Each one is unique and special. We are all individuals and none of us experience things the same way. Embracing the children that God gives to us with love, care and strength can be wonderful. It can be easy. And it can be the hardest thing in the world that you will ever have to do. The most important thing is staying connected. Travelling with our family members through the good times and the bad help create memories and those memories build relationship and relationship builds family. I love my family.
