I got my first camera from My mom, Sarah, at age 12. After discovering backpacking in the Sierra at the same age, I was determined to visit the Himalaya and climb as high as possible. I started to sell my photos at age 22, after traveling to Kashmir, Ladhak and Zanskar. Though the glow and challenge of high altitude climbing never lost its allure, the sweet, tough and funny Himalayan people soon fascinated me. I have travelled there five different times in a mostly futile attempt to learn the languages. Far more successful has been my project to deliver the previous years photos back to the people in the pictures. In my mid 20's I discovered ski mountaineering. I became involved in multiple search and rescues at this time and eventually was hired to work as one of the relief Hut Masters and Yosemite Association Rangers at the Ostrander Ski Hut in Yosemite National Park. In 1990, my wife Susan and I purchased Albany Arts Gallery in the San Francisco Bay Area. I now show my work there and teach private photography classes. Many of my students have been featured in solo shows at the Gallery. In 2011 we sold the Gallery to two of my students and our son Miles. We moved to Oregon where I never seem to catch any of the enormous fish in the Rogue River. I regularly snow camp and backpack through the Sierra, Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
