I've been a devoted follower of Jesus since 1982 and have struggled with a lack of confidence in praying for much of that time. You would think that as a missionary in Africa and a pastor in the U.S., I would be a prayer expert, a prayer warrior. It wasn't until a few years ago that I began to dig into Jesus' prayer in Luke 11 (and Matthew 6). I discovered how to use his outline every day as well as what it means to ask for his kingdom to come. I am continuing to learn new insights about how to live in an ongoing prayer dialogue with my Father. My relationship with him is growing deeper because I am asking for the things he wants to do in my life. I am learning how to abide in Jesus as his words abide in me. I have seen him provide my requested wisdom, love and power countless times, both in my life and in the lives of those I have prayed for.
