From seeing Jessica's routine life to her curiosity getting the better of her . I thought her finding about Henry really broke her and how was she going to move on from that. I had felt her pain and suffering from losing a father figure. Then going against everything and going in the dungeon like place even after all the warnings was like curiosity but I bit of a calling also doing something she never does in her routine. Then she meets this man who has been there a long time who shouldve been forgotten and not alive. Who's supposed to b locked up and never released . She must've just said I'm breaking my routine I mind as well break all the rules too lol. But meeting James changed everything for her because now she's condemned to whatever he was also. And they were on the run not knowing what to do. But this cliffhanger it was really wrong because they are separated and how can Jessica defend herself now. I hope James finds her soon. Sometimes it takes a few chapters for me to get into it, and sometimes it only takes a paragraph. The first sentence had me HOOKED. This book is one of my favorites and I can't wait to read the second. If your vibe is history, mystery, a morally grey MMC, and a badass FMC with an obsessive slow burn, this book is for you. Kairos' writing is poetic, lyrical, and intricate. Each character is fleshed out beautifully and the development of the relationship between Jessica and the Horseman is addictive. Their tension is palpable, their interactions both heart wrenching and heartwarming, and the emotional charged thrill built into each scene will have you obsessing over this book. Even the setting and aesthetic are so heavy they feel like a character. Fantastic read!
