It is difficult to imagine that there might be someone out there who is not moved at the sight of a horse. These beautiful, intelligent and gentle creatures have been in my life and in my dreams for what seems like forever. From a child dreaming of being an Indian riding across the plains to a teen-ager riding bare back and learning what you really won't know how to ride until you have fallen off a horse 100 times meant, to an adult who longed to ride but had to go back to dreaming about it - my love for horses has never lessened. Although I am older now, and hopefully wiser, I can still close my eyes and feel the wind in my hair and on my face as I go racing across Humpback Flats, the strong muscles that ripple and body that shines as my horse and I go swimming, and riding with a friend in the pasture in the fall - leaves of all colours making for a beautiful background. I am young again and life is good. When I was young and at home my best friend was my horse. I could tell him anything and he never laughed, just listened. I could cry and he would put his head over my shoulder and comfort me. I could be happy and it seemed that he just joined right in with the joy. For a lonely girl I saw my horse as a gift from God because He knew I needed someone to love me and He gave me my horse. There are any number of stories that you or I could write about our love affair with horses but instead I hope that as you see the pictures you remember and in remembering you smile, close your eyes and feel again the wonder and freedom of riding on the back of one of creations most wonderful animals, the horse. Even as a child growing up in the Cariboo of Beautiful British Columbia, Canada, Jo loved horses, cowboys and all things country. She was an avid rider who felt comfortable in the ranching lifestyle. Looking back, she could have been a rancher's wife pursuing the western way of life that she loved. Life has a way of surprising us, so when Jo was called to the Mission Field in Bolivia some thirty-three years ago, everything changed. Jo's journey has been incredibly rewarding as she grew to love Bolivia and the people there. She adopted children who now have their own children, (Jo's grandchildren) all while living a life of service to God. Jo has never lost her love and passion for horses and because of that she has created her popular Facebook page and website called 'What a Beautiful Horse', to share her love of horses with others.
