He went on to work in the Irish horse breeding industry, completing the Irish National Stud's Thoroughbred Breeding and Management Course in 2004. He was awarded a PhD from University College Dublin in 2009 for his thesis ""Horse Breeds and Breeding in the Greco-Persian World"". Two articles were published from this in the Journal of Veterinary History: ""The Origins of Equine Medicine"" (2010) and ""Feeding the Ancient Horse"" (2012).
