OverviewThis monograph surveys the teratological effects of hormones in the neonate and in the fetus. It describes the influence of androgens and estrogens in pharmaceutical doses on sexual differentiation, development of cervical and vaginal epithelium, the gonads, and mammary glands. The morphological changes in genitalia and the development of cancer in some species, including man, exposed to steroid hormones and estrogens in utero are dealt with and the influence of thyroid hormones on the development and of cortical hormones on growth and immunological competence is discussed.
