Inspired by the challenge of trying to grow a night-blooming cactus in her home country of Greece, Vassiliki created The Wilder West as part of her PhD at the Centre for Children's Book Illustration, Cambridge School of Art. She collected over 300 cacti and succulent species to create the book, drawing on her BSc in chemistry and MA in environmental studies to carefully observe each one and devise a narrative for introducing children to the environment of the desert.
