Homocysteine Metabolism: From Basic Science to Clinical Medicine

Overview

To date, evidence strongly supports the hypotheses that hyperhomocysteinemia is a strong independent determinant of vascular disease, and that many cases of hyperhomocysteinemia are amenable to homocysteine-lowering treatment with B-vitamins. The strength of this evidence is prompting discussion of large-scale homocysteine-lowering interventions. This wide-ranging treatise on homocysteine covers the topic from the basic biochemical, metabolic, genetic and dietary determinants to disease relationships, including concepts of pathogenesis. It also describes the public-health implications of these associations.

Reviews

'This book is a good resource for information on homocysteine. It is well organised with short and concise chapters that have lots of diagrams, figures and tables...It is well suited for professionals in the field of cardiology and for those who are basic science researchers wishing a connection with clinical applications.' K. Cochan, M.D., Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine
