Overview

The harbor at Calgrave runs on bindings. Wharf-witches set them, captains and merchants live by them, and for as long as anyone can remember they have held. This past several weeks, they have not been holding. Jericho Sand and his partner Piper take cases when normal channels won't do, won't be fast enough, or would require admitting things in writing. The case Tobias Beck brings them on a Thursday morning sounds, at first, like ordinary consortium pressure on a son's small chandlery. By the second day it is something else.
