Reviews

This is a very engaging book--perfect for the new ice hockey enthusiast. There are great photographs that show proper positions of the skates for each of the skills explained. The layout of the book is also quite effective for the age group it targets. The explanations are brief and text boxes in bright colors are placed on each page with fun facts, tips, and information. The book is broken into four main sections: Skating, Stickhandling, Shooting, and Goaltending, and all the basic skills are covered. There is a description of equipment, stance, starting, stopping, skating backward, forehand and backhand handling, passing, receiving, and multiple shot descriptions. Some of the text boxes provide practice drills and lingo definitions. There is a glossary at the end followed by a Learn More section which provides hockey websites and books that can provide further information. Overall this is a fun book packed with information that will help improve hockey skills and/or introduce new players to the sport., Children's Literature
