It lies on the banks of the Ohio River which was a major migration path of person heading west from the Mid-Atlantic states like Pennsylvania. This history is similar to others of the era with topics on early settlers, organization of the county, Land Grants, Indians, slavery, court records, marriages, early travel, industry, churches, schools, interesting items, social life, towns & villages, an 1811 Census of Greenup County, Revolutionary Soldiers Pensioned, Soldiers of the War of 1812 buried in the county, Civil War Soldiers, Muster Rolls of soldiers from the Spanish American War, and numerous mini sketches of these early persons scattered throughout these sections. This is followed up with roughly 200 pages of biographical sketches of these early settlers of the county.
