OverviewClan Graham were a relatively small but powerful Scottish Clan which can boast at least three Scottish national heroes. Throughout history the Grahams were known for their loyalty, nobility, pride and their fighting ability. Whether they were from Pictish or Norse origin, they quickly established themselves in Perthshire, Kincardineshire and other parts of the North East Scotland, where they fought to establish the Kingdom of Scotland. The Grahams were at the forefront of Scotland's fight for Independence from the English and fought for Wallace, Bruce and the Stewart Kings. Their loyalty to King Charles II led to the Graham, Marquis of Montrose being hanged, beheaded and quartered and his body parts distributed round the principal cities of Scotland as a warning to others. In the Scottish/ English Borders they became one of the great and most notorious Reiving Clans which fought and robbed their neighbours for over two centuries and threatened the stability of both Kingdoms. As the power of the clan chiefs waned, they joined other Scots to become the backbone of the British Empire. Despite this, many Grahams chose or were forced to seek new lives, firstly in Ireland, then in North America and other parts of the world, where they helped develop many nations.
